Review of the Seagate External Hard Drive

By

Most modern desktops and laptops come with enough hard drive space to give the average user more than enough capacity to store all their information on, but there are some, especially those who store HD home movies and larger files, that need a little extra storage space. It used to be that external hard drives were an expensive little prospect, but, like most new technology, the prices have dropped significantly over the past few years.

The perfect example of a high capacity hard drive at a low cost is the Seagate Expansion 1TB External Hard Drive which, depending where you shop, can be purchased for around $90. Just a few short years ago, no-one would have ever believed that anyone would need a terabyte of space. Yet the demand for faster, more efficient computers has made electronics makers sit up and take notice and rethink the design of the best external hard drive.

As you might expect, given the price, the Seagate 1TB External is a no frills drive, but really, what else are you looking for but the extra space; here’s what you get:

• USB 2.0 or 3.0 connectivity
• The USB 3.0 cable is backward compatible with USB 2.0 interfaces so you can access files from any PC
• No software, the drive is automatically recognized by Windows
• Easy drag and drop to save files
• Lightweight and compact design

The size and weight of the Seagate Hard Drive make it perfect for home and travel use; it’s small enough to fit in even the most space conscious home office space, as well as being lightweight enough to carry around in a laptop bag or briefcase. It is also an energy efficient unit, requiring no external power source, and it comes equipped with an energy saving sleep mode that kicks in after 10 minutes while the hard drive continues to do its job.

If you have a newer, loaded computer, then this size of hard drive may be a little redundant, but it’s a perfect add-on for those who have an older desktop with limited hard drive space or for the traveler who needs a portable hard drive option. If the 1TB seems a little excessive, then the Seagate comes in a smaller 500GB version, but for those that have a lot of personal stuff to store, then you can go all the way up to a 3 TB model, all at very low prices, and available at most major electronic retail outlets.
